The Noor Energy 1 Visitors Centre within Phase Four of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is now open, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced.

Billed as a key facility, the Noor Energy 1 Visitors Centre features an exhibition that chronicles the history of energy and future energy technologies. It displays the latest technologies in Concentrated Solar Power (CSP), photovoltaic cells, and the future of green hydrogen. In addition, the exhibition uses Virtual Reality (VR) to tour the solar park to understand the projects and technologies used to produce energy, said a statement from DEWA.

The 950MW phase of the sustainable project has investments totaling $4.3bn and is being developed on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. A consortium led by DEWA and Acwa Power formed a project company, Noor Energy 1, to design, build, and operate the plant. DEWA owns a 51% stake, while Acwa Power has 25% and the Silk Road Fund the rest of the 24% stake in the firm.

Speaking at the opening of the facility, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA said the firm had launched pioneering initiatives and projects to diversify clean energy sources. These include multiple clean and renewable energy sources and technologies such as solar photovoltaic solar panels (CSP), green hydrogen production using solar power, pumped-storage water technology using clean energy in Hatta, and research into electricity generation from wind power.

Al Tayer also pointed out that all of DEWA’s strategies and plans were aimed at promoting sustainability, innovation and the shift towards a green sustainable economy.

“Our projects at the solar park using the IPP model constitute one of the key pillars of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of energy from clean energy sources by 2050,” stated Al Tayer in the presence of Acwa Power chairman Mohammad Abunayyan and other officials from DEWA and Noor Energy 1.

Abunayyan said once Noor Energy 1 becomes operational, it will be the largest single-site concentrated solar power plant in the world. “This experience centre will allow visitors to understand and witness this unique project from a technological and solutions perspective,” he concluded.

Majid Al Futtaim Communities and Aldar Properties are collaborating to create and implement digital real estate sales platforms for their businesses. The move follows the issuance of a UAE federal decree on electronic transactions and trust services (E-Law). The developers said they are aiming to be the first to implement an online sale system in the UAE.

According to a statement, the new E-Law allows for real estate transactions to be included within its scope of application. The digitalisation of the real estate transactions will make property purchases, sales and management a simple, quick and convenient process for both UAE and overseas customers. The E-Law regulates and allows electronic transactions to be conducted with confidence by recognising that a verified electronic signature has the same legal validity as a physical signature.

“The issuance of the new E-Law and the initiation of our new digital real estate sales platform marks the next step in our digital transformation journey as we aim to become the region’s most customer-centric developer. As the first real estate organisations in the UAE to adopt this online system, Majid Al Futtaim welcomes this collaboration with Aldar and aims to work together to create a more innovative industry. Moving forward, this will allow our customers to experience seamless and safe transactions regardless of their location,” said Majid Al Futtaim Communities CEO Hawazen Esber.

The move to electronic real estate transactions not only significantly reduces the time required to complete transactions, but it also enhances the customer experience and is more environmentally friendly due to the reduction in paper usage. Buyers can complete the transactions digitally from the comfort of their own home or office, regardless of where they are in the world, the statement noted.

The collaboration between Majid Al Futtaim and Aldar follows the recent signing of a MoU that will see both parties work together to enhance innovation, customer experience, digital transformation and sustainable practices in the real estate sector. Supporting the UAE’s drive to increase the contribution of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to the national economy, the MOU aims to encourage further knowledge sharing and collaborative innovation in the real estate sector, the statement added.

Aldar Development CEO Jonathan Emery concluded, “The new E-law is a significant development for the UAE’s real estate sector. It will not only improve the experience for buyers but encourage overseas investment in what is a modern and digitalized market. Together with Majid Al Futtaim – Communities, we hope to encourage further collaboration within the industry to ensure that the UAE’s real estate market is at the forefront of innovation, digital transformation and sustainability.”

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the completion of 50% of the Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Roads Improvement Corridor.

The project, which extends eight kilometres along Ras Al Khor Road, runs from the intersection of the Dubai-Al Ain Road to the junction of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. Improvement works also include the construction of bridges extending 2km, a WAM report said.

“The project includes widening Ras Al Khor Road from three to four lanes in each direction and constructing a two-lane service road to enhance the traffic safety and ease the traffic flow, besides eliminating the existing overlapping traffic spots. It will also increase the capacity of Ras Al Khor Road to 10,000 vehicles per hour and slash the travel time from 20 to 7 minutes.

“The project serves a host of major development projects inhabited by 650,000 residents around The Lagoons, Dubai Creek Harbour, Meydan Horizons, Ras Al Khor, Al Wasl, and Nadd Al Hamar Complex,” said Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, RTA.

He added that the project also includes the improvement of the intersection of Nadd Al Hamar Road with Ras Al Khor Road. There will be an increase in the capacity of 3,000 vehicles per hour by constructing a two-lane bridge extending 988 metres to enable free left-side turns of traffic inbound from Nadd Al Hamar Road heading in the direction of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Rd.

It also involves the construction of another 115-metre bridge to serve the traffic inbound from Nadd Al Hamar heading to Ras Al Khor Road in the direction of Dubai-Al Ain Road. A two-lane tunnel extending 368 metres will be constructed to enable right turns from Ras Al Khor Road to Nadd Al Hamar. The project works also include improvements at the existing intersection, and widening the existing turns

“The Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Roads Improvement Corridor is one of the biggest projects undertaken by the RTA. In future, it will include the construction of Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Crossing, a bridge crossing over Dubai Creek to link Al Jaddaf in Bur Dubai with the street between Dubai Creek Harbour Project and Dubai Festival City,” Al Tayer added.

The project has been divided into several phases. Last year, the RTA completed the construction of a three-lane bridge extending 740 metres leading to the Western entrance to (Dubai Creek – Dubai Creek Harbour). The bridge connects traffic inbound from Dubai – Al Ain Road and Al Khail Road, heading East to Dubai Creek – Dubai Creek Harbour area, with a capacity of 7,500 vehicles per hour.

The RTA has also constructed a new 1.5-km road of four lanes in each direction along with entry and exit points to and from the newly completed areas to facilitate traffic inbound from Nadd Al Hamar – Ras Al Khor Roads intersection, Al Tayer said.

“The new roads and bridges network contributed to streamlining the traffic flow to the newly completed housing units at the Dubai Creek, by linking them with the surrounding roads. The new roads were also fitted with lighting comprising 108 streetlight poles. Work is currently underway on constructing a 640-metre bridge to ensure smooth traffic movement from Dubai Creek Harbour project towards Ras Al Khor Road with a capacity of about 3,100 vehicles per hour,” he concluded.
